colorblock cardi.

{Sweater: Similar | Scarf: Similar | Shirt: Gap | Jeans: Gap | Shoes: Similar}

So several years ago, I used to be all about designer duds. It's not something I am proud of and it's definitely not s a course that I recommend. But there are few (read: very few) items that I acquired during this time that I believe will be in my wardrobe for a very long time to come. This cardigan is one of those pieces. I used to wear it all the time when I was working; it's a great piece that has a little bit of pizzazz for my mom days; it works perfectly while I'm pregnant; and I truly believe it will last me until I am much older. There are not very many pieces that can be that versatile or that timeless.

I definitely don't encourage buying designer labels but if you come across a piece that might be more than you would normally spend and you can see it working in every stage of your life, then I think that's a pretty good investment.

fresh as a flower.

{Dress: Gap | Belt: Target | Bag: Target | Shoes: Target}

When I packed for Puerto Rico, I made sure I had plenty of accessories. You name it, I had it. And every evening I would layer them on. Let's try this bold necklace or this flashy bangle. And every single time, it just felt like too much.

I don't know if it's something about the laid back culture of the Caribbean or the feel of warm weather or just being pregnant, but I just didn't want the extras. I wanted simple, breezy outfits that didn't seem over thought or uncomfortable.

I'm curious if this simple styling will carry on through this summer or if it was just what a beachy week in the Caribbean called for. I kind of hope it sticks to some extent because sometimes I need to remember that a bold floral print is all the wow you need.

What about you? Do you love accessories? Or do you take a more simplistic approach to dressing? Or does your basic style formula change as the seasons change?

the little birdie told me to.

{Jacket: J. Crew | Sweater: Similar | Shirt: Similar | Shoes: Sole Society}

Have you ever gone to a store and scored a piece that you know you will just end up loving time and again and it ended up costing next to nothing? The only store this has ever happened is Old Navy. For some reason, every once in awhile I find a treasure that I wear over and over again and I love it every single time. This bird shirt is one of those treasures. I feel like I will wear it until it has holes in it. Please someone tell me how I fill my wardrobe with pieces like this! Could you imagine a closet filled with pieces that you just absolutely loved? It would make getting dressed so easy!

And what do you guys think of my new monogram necklace? I've been wanting one oh so bad. And GroopDealz had them. I was actually hoping that it would be bigger but now that I have it, I actually like that it's a little more dainty.

daytime sparkles.

{Sunglasses: Kate Spade | Jacket: Similar | Sweatshirt: Similar | Shoes: Madewell}

It's getting warmer (not super warm though), so that means you are going to see my utility jacket ALL the time. It literally is my trusty sidekick. I don't leave home without it.

My wardrobe is getting smaller and smaller (I didn't mean for that to be a double entendre, but touche Lindsay touche). I'm about to the point where I've outgrown my normal clothes. And even if I haven't, like this sweatshirt, I have major anxiety about my belly being exposed, so I am always yanking on the hem. Attractive no. Better than showing my belly? One would think so.

So as much as I abhor buying maternity clothes, especially ones that will only see the light of day for another three months or so, I did exactly that. I needed a few more options, especially since I am likely to stretch the hem out of every shirt I own.

But one thing I don't need to buy in maternity is shoes. These sneakers were a bit of a stretch for me. I thought they could be a disaster. I totally did not expect a home-run. And I am super excited that they add a little bit of pizzazz to my weekend uniform.

Hope you all had a lovely weekend!

finally some camo!

{Shirt: Similar | Jacket: Similar | Belt: Target | Bag: Target | Shoes: Similar}

I found my beauty secret...it's a little thing called a two-hour nap. A two-hour nap is good for my skin, good for my hair, good for my body and apparently good for my wardrobe. Unfortunately, that kind of legendary nap happens once in a blue moon.

On another note, I got lucky. Super lucky. I know I go on rants all the time about how wonderful Target is but I have to go there again. During a recent jaunt, I stopped by the clearance rack thinking there would be nothing and you know what was waiting for me...this jacket! And if you have been a long time reader, you know that I've been on the hunt for a great camo jacket. I think I hit the jackpot with this one!

And speaking of the jackpot. can we talk about that beautiful red bag? Also from Target! I am in love with it and it's huge, which is wonderful because I have a bunch of crap that I need to tote around with me all the time.

So if you get anything out of this post, it should be that you need to take a two-hour nap ASAP to see what kind of wonders it brings and go to Target immediately because there is so much awesomeness there!

If that doesn't start out a Wednesday right, I don't know what does.

springy.

{Necklace: J. Crew Factory | Blazer: Similar | Dress: Old Navy | Purse: Similar | Shoes: J. Crew Factory}

I think I look a little like an Easter egg with the colors and various bands of design around my expanding middle. Nonetheless I love this dress and I love it even more knowing it's from Old Navy. It's perfect for spring and even though it's not maternity, it's a great fit for a momma with a baby on the way.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. I am done, done, done with winter. I've decided to just pretend it's spring (even though it was snowing yesterday). This may or may not result in frostbite. But I just can't deal with pulling on another pair of boots (do you have any idea how hard it is to put on boots with a belly in the way?!?) So flats and spring colors it is for the rest of this "in-between" season.

Are you guys feeling the same? Or are you actually seeing some sunshine in your part of the world? (If so, I am just the teeniest bit jealous.)

maximum comfort

{Jacket: Similar | Shirt: Similar | Dress: Similar | Purse: Target | Boots: Similar}

The most comfortable award goes to...maxi dresses! As I'm getting bigger and bigger with this pregnancy, it's harder and harder to feel comfortable in jeans or any kind of pant other than pajama pants. Maxi dresses and skirts are the more stylish alternative to pj pants. Am I right? I mean I can actually leave the house in this outfit as opposed to most of the combos I end up in at the end of the day. As I type this, I am donning a striped shirt and plaid pj pants. I mean it's pattern mixing at its best.

And that bag. The photos don't do it justice. It doesn't look like it's from Target at all. I love everything about it from it's perfect little shape to its color to its details. If only it was about 15 sizes bigger, it would be perfect. Instead I just trail diapers and wipes oh and apparently phones (I lost then found my phone), when I use it. But that's cute...right?

no wallflower.

{Headband: Similar | Sweater: Similar | Purse: Similar | Cords: Gap}

Usually I would categorize myself in the wallflower category. It's not often that I want to standout in a crowd. But this outfit was just screaming to be worn and when an outfit screams at you, you wear it whether you want to standout or not. This navy animal print sweater was just meant to be paired with these emerald green cords. And yes, that's right I've added another color to my menagerie of colored pants. I mean you might not know it but if you see a pair of emerald green cords they are probably going to go home with you (or me).

How about you are you a wallflower or a stand out in the crowd kind of girl? Or do you dance on both sides of the line?

a winner.

{Sweater: Similar | Shirt: Gap | Jeans: Old Navy | Shoes: Target}

I hate to admit it but a lot of my winter clothes are still in storage. I'm just a little late on the season change (this happens a lot). But I pulled a few things out before I headed west and this sweater was one of them. I had it last year and liked the idea of it but never really loved it. Now I love it. I think it might...dare I say it...be the greatest sweater I own. Oh and you can't tell in the photos but my shirt has teeny, tiny little polka dots, so now it is my favorite shirt. Put my favorite shirt and the greatest sweater together and what have you got....a winner my friends. And probably the only time I have pulled off a semi-monochromatic look and liked it! And to top it all off this outfit is so me. I like simple combos that pop and well, polka dots.

budget look: maxi dress turned skirt.

{Dress: Similar | Sweater: Similar | Earrings: Similar | Shoes: Similar}

So let's talk about these shoes (er...torture contraptions) okay? I love the way these shoes look. I think they are so stinking cute. However, I hate the way these shoes make my feet feel. Remind me of that next time I decide to walk a mile in them...k?

On a whim I decided to pair these two pieces (the top + the bottom) together. Don't you just love when that happens and it actually works? Because most of the time it does not work.

This is me making the most of what I have in my closet. Remember that budget folks? I'm still sticking with it. The skirt is actually a maxi dress. Little did I know it could also function as a skirt. Other cleverer bloggers figured this one out. I just followed suit. This look is easy to do without buying any additional pieces. You just take a sweater and pair it with a maxi from this summer and voila you have a whole new look. I mean really this is just genius.
