then & now: the red sweater
Let's face it. Most of us are women who have to live within the constraints of our budgets. We don't have designers gifting us the newest fashions and we don't really have the bucks to dish out on such designs (except for the infrequent treat). Our closets are finite. Sure we add here and there, but for the most part our wardrobe and our style are developed from mixing and matching the pieces we own.
As bloggers, most of us want to give our readers new looks every day but there is something to be said for showing our readers how to integrate pieces into every season. I could show you a million outfits that I have featured on the blog using my chambray shirt, my military jacket or my favorite vests. But those are the pieces that are easy to wear with just about any outfit.
Usually when I buy staples like sweaters (and blazers) I steer toward neutrals. I mean why buy a red sweater? If I wear it often, people will notice. And is it really that versatile?
Well, actually it is. It is a refreshing pop of color in an otherwise dull winter look and it gives a statement skirt or dress that extra oomph for an unusually cool summer day.
What unexpected pieces do you have in your closet that can work now and later? I bet if you think about it, you will find a lot more variations of outfits that you may not have thought of otherwise.
Happy closet shopping my friends!

I'm having this issue right now...I have no new clothes because I'm saving up for my shopping trip at my dads house ( he has better stores) and I have little inspiration. I love that sweater and I love the military jacket!
ReplyDeleteI totally get that. Before I cleaned out my closet, I couldn't see anything or think of any new combinations because I was just turning to the same five shirts I could actually see! Hopefully you will find some inspiration soon!
DeleteI love both of the looks here! But yea I completely understand what you mean..I try to switch up my accessories to create different looks with the same tops/bottoms!

Such a great idea Olivia! Accessories can make all the difference!
DeleteI definitely like to see bloggers re-mix pieces from their wardrobe. I like to try to incorporate my summer pieces in the winter through layering :-)

Jeans and a Teacup
I've been playing around a lot with layering lately and it really gives you to create so many more outfits!
DeleteOh boy, i'm going through this myself! My closet has reduced dramatically due to my current living situation, so I'm having to learn to mix and match and be more adventurous than I previously had been! Although I'm still tempted to stay with neutrals, I'm trying to find ways to make them that much more fun!

DeleteI love it when I can find a way to use one piece for multiple looks and seasons. You did a great job here! Love how you paired it with that skirt. Very cute :)
