maternity what?

{Jacket: Similar | Scarf: Similar | Shirt: Gap | Pants: Old Navy | Shoes: Target}

I hope you guys had a wonderful weekend. And I hope that my small break wasn't too long. I just feel like lately I have too much on my plate chasing after a toddler all day, traveling two weekends in a row and managing the last trimester of this pregnancy. Not to mention, it's hard to be stylish when you are this pregnant! It has definitely been a major style challenge for me (in a good way). I've had to push myself to get dressed every day even when I don't feel like it. And I'm not usually a big accessory lady, but you have to be when you are wearing the same pieces over and over again!

I do have to give myself credit because folks, I am more than seven months pregnant and I am not wearing one single piece of maternity clothing. Can you believe it? I feel like that's a miracle! I am loving, loving, loving the stretchy waistbands in wide-leg pants these days. They are just perfect for me! And I am pretty sure these guys are gonna get a lot of play post pregnancy.

best non-maternity purchase: silky shorts two ways!

{Outfit 1: Top | Blazer | Shorts | Sandals | Outfit 2: Hat | Shirt | Shorts | Sandals}

I've been making a lot of investments in my summer maternity wardrobe especially since we have a warm-weather trip on the horizon. I really hate investing in maternity pieces now that I only have three months where I can wear them, so I'm in the market for some smart non-maternity investments that I can wear now and later.

These silk shorts are divine! They are not maternity, they have a drawstring waist, they are flowy and they fit in all the right places. And you know what...I'm super excited to wear them when I'm not pregnant! I totally would have bypassed these guys if I wasn't shopping for comfort and an expandable waist band right now. Here I styled them two ways, one dressy and one casual. I seriously cannot wait to break these guys out next week!

bright white.

This is the cardigan that I wasn't too sure about, but now I've decided I love it. I love the bright pop of neon against white pants. But white pants are dangerous...dangerous around these parts.

Not only do I spill food on myself on a regular basis (the good news is that my belly is so large at this point that it usually catches most of the runaway food), but I also have a two-year-old.

We went to Starbucks for breakfast one morning and I was wearing these adorable new white pants when my son decided it would be fun to put his shoes on them. Now there are faint pint-sized dust marks on them. Of course, once I said no, it was the most fun game ever invented. So it just looks like a toddler ran all over the lower portion of my body. Fun. Very fun.

maternity (my everyday) style!

This post is specifically about maternity style (i.e. I feature some maternity pieces), but really this is my formula for ANY outfit where I am chasing around a toddler, cleaning my home or running errands. I pick a super simple base like jeans and a tee. The base is perfect for vacuuming, cleaning a bathroom or making dinner, but then when I head out the door I add the extras that give my outfit a little more oomph.

The same is true now that I'm pregnant. I don't want to be uncomfortable. I want pieces that fit me but that don't constrict me. So a lot of my tees and all of my pants are maternity, but I still buy blazers, sweaters and vests in my regular size. I can wear them now and later. Both of these looks are still on trend even though they are maternity. Colored jeans, pastels, tweed textures, black and white color combos, denim vests and stripes are all very in.

So there's a little bit of a glimpse into how I style myself as a pregnant mommy and well, just a mommy!
