miss mix-a-lot!

{Shirt: Ann Taylor Loft | Pants: Ann Taylor Loft | Shoes: Target | Clutch: Similar}

Just call me little Miss Mix-A-Lot!  This is definitely my boldest pattern mixing venture to date.  Usually I try to go more subtle, but I threw that out the window.

I wore this to dinner with some friends.  I asked my husband if he thought I looked cute.  And his response was a whopping "hmmmm."  Not exactly the reaction I was going for especially when I only get the opportunity to go out once every three months.  He didn't think the outfit matched.  I'm hoping that he doesn't know what the heck he's talking about.  I would hate to think that all those looks I got were people wondering if I got dressed in the dark.

Oh well, the truth is sometimes people can't handle bold trends.  As long as I can handle it, who cares?  But really, you do think this works...right? (That's my annoying self-conscious side showing through.  Just ignore her.)

I'm linking up with The Pleated Poppy and Marionberry Style for the trend of the month...pattern mixing!

  7. It works if you're rockin' it, and I say you totally are! I mean, most people don't understand the concept of pattern mixing, but you do it wonderfully here!

  8. Look at you all sexy in snake! I love it. Don't feel bad about the fact that your husband didn't think you matched. My husband is often confused by the things I wear or the things I do. I have a dress in 3 colors. I wear the black and he loves. I put the purple on and ask him what he thought. He says, "Well, you can wear it to work where you don't have to look attractive." Sweet nothings I tell ya!

  15. Hahahaha, I get the "hmmmm" from the husband all the time. Then I get compliments from women. OBviously men do not know what they are talking about.

  16. Such a fun combination! I think this works for sure - the colors are neutral and similar, so they really compliment each other! And that pop of red on the lips and nails is just perfect, it's such a fun little accent. You're so right that some people can't handle bold trends, and husbands are definitely the worst for judging fashion-forward looks - they just always want "pretty," right? :) Great look!

  22. I'm constantly trying to improve my pattern mixing skills. I've noticed lately that I really need some patterned bottoms but I'm so scared. Your pants give me hope! They are super cute and the minimal pattern still has a big impact. Love it!

    1. You should definitely give patterned bottoms a shot. And if you are nervous about them start styling them with solid colored tops and then eventually make your way to pattern mixing. I think patterned bottoms are such standout pieces!

  23. I think it looks great... very unexpected, but I like that about it. I may have tried a bright shoe or bag with it, for some color, but I think it's a bold pairing that takes guts, and you pulled it off beautifully!
