the coatigan

{Coatigan: Target | Chambray: Gap | Jeans: Old Navy | Shoes: Anthropologie | Bag: Similar}

As usual I was shopping the aisles of Target for necessities when of course I got distracted by the pretty baubles and eye-catching fabrics NOT in the necessity aisle. I had recently put a "coatigan" (part cardigan, part coat) on my "want-to-buy" list and lo behold, look at what I found at Target...a coatigan. And to be honest, I love it so much more than the ones on my list. I love the drape, I love the colors and I love the belt. Throw on a chambray shirt, some jeans, the standard red lip and some pretty, patterned loafers and what do you know, you have a picture perfect outfit.

Gotta love that Target or should I say, women love it, husbands hate it. If that's not an rousing endorsement I don't know what is.

dusty coral and forest green

{Cardigan: Langford Market (Similar) | Chambray: J. Crew | Sweater: Gap (Similar) | Pants: Gap (Similar) | Boots: Madewell}

Lately I've been in a rut when it comes to getting dressed. Maybe it's because only a quarter of my clothes fit. Maybe it's because I have so many clothes stuffed in my teeny, tiny closet I can't even move the hangers. Maybe it's because I can't clean out said closet because well, if I were to clean it out today I would get rid of ALL my clothes because they don't fit. See the dilemmas of being a fashion blogger and having a baby?

But now for the good news. I was paging through magazines prior to a haircut looking for something good to read and I picked up a special edition of Lucky. It has 100 perfect outfits and let me tell you they are darn near perfect. Every morning I casually peruse the magazine (while my children are screaming at me) until I land on the right inspiration. Then I walk over to my closet (the teeny, tiny one) and discover my perfect outfit.

This look is inspired by an outfit of forest green and dusty coral. Unfortunately, I don't have any dusty coral but I do have coral (close enough in my book). And I love the way it turned out. I never would have reached into my closet and grabbed these two colors but I'm glad I did.

What's inspiring you to dress these days?

can you hear the kids screaming in the background?

{Blazer: Gap | Shirt: Similar | Jeans: Similar | Shoes: Similar}

Folks, we are getting to the point where taking outfit photos is starting to get real embarrassing. I mean I"m fine with it. I'm totally cool with looking like an idiot. It's my husband who doesn't like looking like one.

Take these photos. We were going to a circus event (in a rush as usual because we can never seem to leave on time EVER.) And so we had to hurriedly take these photos in front of all the other families heading to the event. But the real kicker is we leave the kids in the car (don't worry we don't abandon them...we take the photos right outside the vehicle). And we put the windows down so we can talk to them. Well, during this particular shoot (and let's be honest many of them), T was kicking the seat screaming at the top of his lungs because well, we are taking photos and he is sitting in the car. Meanwhile everyone is staring at us because I am vainly having my husband take my photos while my children are clearly not having it. And of course he's done and I"m like, "Take one more like this. Oooh how about this. How's this look?" And so on and so on.

I think the real solution to this problem is buying a house where we have a YARD so that we don't have to cart our kids on EVERY single photo shoot. (Hence maybe another reason why we've been lacking on the outfit photo front). Don't you wish there was video accompanying these photos? The things I do for this blog.

date night!

{Jacket: Similar | Shirt: Similar | Necklace: Target | Clutch: Similar | Jeans: Gap | Shoes: Similar}

My mom was in town this week so hubby and I got a little bit of a date night. Yay! Babysitters are good but it's even better when you know your kids are with family. We went to a really cool English gastropub and it was so very good. Lots of beer and good food...my kind of date! I even broke out the heels. It's been awhile folks and my feet are feeling it.

I'm also happy to announce that I am no longer wearing maternity jeans. Thank goodness! I'm trying really hard to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight but it's full of ups and downs. I'm trying to be patient but it's hard! I just want to be back in full force with my workouts and my wardrobe! Soon Lindsay, soon.

And let's talk about the little lady who's upstaging me in my first photo. I feel like we should have been taking her photos. I mean that jacket...it's quite the statement!

here's to the last of summer.

{Jacket: J. Crew | Necklace: Similar | Shirt: Old Navy | Shoes: J. Crew Factory | Bag: Rachel Zoe}

I'm thinking this is the last of the shorts outfits and that fall is really here. How happy are you about that? I know I"m pretty pleased!

My husband is leaving for four days and it's just me, a toddler and a babe. Now does that sound like fun or what? {Insert sarcasm here.} Truth be told, I'm actually terrified. But I just need to put on my big girl pants and buck up. Right? Right. {That's me giving myself a pep talk.}

So if it's quiet around these parts for the rest of the week you'll know why. It's because I've either pulled all my hair out or my brain has atrophied from baby and toddler speak.

blue and red.

{Glasses: Warby Parker | Blazer: Similar | Shirt: Zara | Bracelet: Old Navy | Shorts: J. Crew | Purse: J. Crew | Oxfords: Similar}

It's hot guys...like blazing hot. Oh how I wished for those 90 degree days all summer long and now they are here and I want them to go away! I want the briskness of fall. And I want to dive headfirst into my fall wardrobe...booties, jeans, jackets and vests! I want, I want, I want. I am starting to sound like my toddler!

Needless to say I am coping, pulling pieces from fall and pairing them with summer staples. Bringing out my blazers, plaids and oxfords and wearing them with shorts. Usually this is my favorite time of the year because it allows me to get creative with my wardrobe. But 90 degrees doesn't really allow for that, now does it? I mean I just look like a crazy person if I"m wearing long sleeves and a blazer on a 90 degree day!

a little bit fall.

{Sunglasses: TJ Maxx | Jacket: Similar | Sweatshirt: Similar | Scarf: Similar | Shorts: Gap | Purse: Rachel Zoe | Shoes: Similar}

So I've just realized that I am kind of love with the way an open scarf looks (hence the last two outfits). I think it adds a lot of interest to a relatively simple outfit. I especially love the way it looks here. It just adds so much.

And I am really starting to feel like myself more and more each day. I feel like my sense of style is starting to come back and I am not just restricted to maternity wear and large oversized items. I feel like I lost my style a little bit during this pregnancy because I wanted to cover up my arms or I felt like I had to try to mask my large belly. I don't have those problems anymore. And it makes me so, so happy! I feel like a new and refreshed me and I am ready to dive back into my closet (and this blog)!

On another note, I have become a reading machine. It's one of my favorite things about nursing. Every time I wake up in the dead of night to nurse B, I have my trusty Kindle by my side. I've blitzed through three books since he was born. Having a good read awaiting me every time I drag myself out of bed makes those dreary nighttime hours go by so much faster. And more importantly, it makes me love nursing. What is usually a tedious chore becomes a beloved, quiet moment between me and my babe (and my book of choice). And dare I say, maybe it makes me hope just a little (teensy bit) less for a child who sleeps through the night. Right now I'll take my quiet, peaceful moments where I can get them.

neutral.

{Top: Similar | Scarf: Similar | Shorts: Similar | Bag: Mishqua | Shoes: Similar}

And just a few shots with my new accessory ;)

I'm back (after a very long hiatus)! Sorry for the complete radio silence! I am just trying to figure out this whole toddler and baby thing. All the free time I used to enjoy has just simply disappeared! I have a feeling most of it has gone toward laundry. Nobody told me how it would suddenly quadruple! But I'm hoping I will find some balance soon. So please be patient with me and this little blog.

It's hard to believe that my little newborn is already a month old. Where does the time go?!? He's growing and changing and I'm still in that awkward, hard-to-dress phase, where clothes aren't my friend. But every day I get up, take a shower and try to put together a cute outfit. It's crazy how a woman's body changes. I feel like I need a whole new wardrobe for this weird-nothing-fits-me-I-just-had-a-baby purgatory that I'm in. But that's not realistic so I'm working with what I've got and buying a few pieces that are a little looser (boyfriend style) that will still be trending through fall and winter. It's not easy but then again when is getting dressed ever easy? :)
